Bananas to the Rescue

Banans to the Rescue by Vivien Veil

Bananas bring me a lot of joy in the afternoon and the evening, but NEVER in the morning — unless of course, I want to take a morning nap.  🙂  You see, the banana aids in getting you to relax because it contains melatonin, serotonin and magnesium. So, next time someone tells you to grab a banana for energy – tell them to take a hike.   🙂  Whoever came up with that theory needs to take Nutrition 101.

I can eat 6-10 at a go.  “Woah, that’s a lot, Vivien!” Yes, it’s a lot, but easy when you put them in a blender. My pals can easily devour whole pizzas in one sitting, yet find it hard to believe that I can eat up to 10 bananas in a single meal.

“But Vivien, I don’t want to gain weight. Bananas are high in calories. *grabs Diet Coke and potato chips*

Look in the mirror and repeat after me, “Bananas are not fattening.”  If I had a pound or dollar for the many times I’ve heard someone tell me that. I eat tons of bananas every day and still weigh the same. Your body will digest the ripe banana completely unlike a bag of chips. Low carb dieters need to wake up and smell the great genus Musa family.

Notice I said ripe banana? You should aim to eat only ripe bananas. Perhaps someone taught you to refuse them.  Well, you must embrace them because they’re so delicious and good for you.

*gives ripe banana*

Here’s what I usually eat for a quick meal:

  • 6-10 RIPE bananas (depending on my hunger)
  • Ice cubes
  • A little bit of Coconut Water or plain water (sometimes I use rice milk) 🙂
  • Optional: Hemp Seeds
Sometimes I chop ripe bananas into cubes, put them into baggies and then place them in the freezer. That way you don’t have to buy ice.  🙂 You can also freeze the ripe bananas and make popsicles or ice lollies. Great snacks for kids and teething babies!

“Okay, why ripe bananas?”

Green bananas contain indigestible starches and less easily digested sugar – meaning you’re going to be one bloated cat if you eat them. If not, you’re one of the lucky few. You see, us humans lack the enzyme to digest unripe bananas properly.  Take this advice to heart.  Your stomach and brain will thank you if you eat ripe fruit – trust me.

“I’ve got some green bananas now. Tell me there’s a way to ripen them fast!”

Yes! Place them in a brown bag with an apple and it’ll accelerate the ripening process.

“I’ll only eat bananas if they’ll make me younger looking and beautiful.”

Well, you’re in luck my vain friend.  Check out the benefits of eating bananas below.

How on Earth is Miley Cyrus Fat?

6

*switches off Hannah Montana and hides Hannah Montana DVD box set*

I’m not a Miley Cyrus fan, but I sympathize with what she is experiencing at the moment. Some mentally distorted people keep calling her “fat.”

Miley Cyrus retaliated on her Twitter account by posting a picture of an emaciated women and said,

“By calling girls like me fat this is what you’re doing to other people. I love MYSELF & if you could say the same you wouldn’t be sitting on your computer trying to hurt others.”

Does she look fat to you? I hope you said no. The media carries the Herculean task in forming our views in everything from politics to the human body. They already damaged people’s perception on how the body should look like anyway. What happened to the Marilyn Monroe body? Why do women now aspire to look like Kate Moss and a young version of Twiggy?

The father of PR, Edward Bernays, states, “We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.”

Eating disorders among the pre-adolescent population continues to rise with children as young as six becoming victims. Is the media to blame? Children mimic and like imitating their favourite stars and heroes. Don’t believe me? Take your daughter to see any Disney movie, for example Hannah Montana.  She’ll then start acting like her favourite character and demand you buy her everything Hannah. Do you know how many young girls want to be like her? Do you know how many girls want to be singers now?

I commend Miley and her best friend Demi Lovato for hitting back at those belittling and bullying comments. I hope Miley’s legions of fans and others follow suit and stop worrying about their body 24/7. Eating healthy will automatically give you a slender appearance without the harmful side effects of an eating disorder.

Miley Cyrus IS NOT fat.  Below is a picture of someone who needs to hit the gym and lay off of junk food. Calling Miley fat is unbelievably idiotic. Men want women with curves, but please don’t say this woman below is “curvy.”

UPDATE:

I wrote this article back in 2011, and it’s still one of my popular articles to this day.  A lot has happened in Miley’s life since then.  She’s totally reinvented herself – who can forget her 2013 MTV Music Awards performance alongside Robin Thicke?

She’s now thinner than ever – and more comfortable in her own skin.   She literally killed Hannah Montana that night using a powerful combination of sexuality and marijuana.  She successfully destroyed her clean-cut Disney image.

So, did those nasty comments in 2011 trigger her to lose weight?  I’m almost certain that the body shaming Miley received negatively affected her – ultimately causing her to shed the weight.  Because let’s face it, she’s a completely new person – physically and personality-wise if you ask me.   When will people stop caring what others think of them?  Social media can be a dangerous thing… Cyber bullying can ruin someone’s perception of what is beautiful and force them to become someone they aren’t.

Garlic: Friend or Foe?

21

garlic clove

By: Vivien Veil

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love garlic. Eating a bulb with my meal proves no difficulty at all, although I don’t recommend eating too much at a go. My husband shudders when he sees me take out the garlic press. I must admit that garlic does nothing to attract the opposite sex or anyone for that matter. Not even the vampires dare to come close! You emanate such an offensive odour after consuming garlic that it’s best to not speak close to people for a couple of days.

We all know the endless list of benefits garlic produces, e.g. natural antibiotic, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and cancer killer.  However, there are some reports that suggest garlic is a poison to us. *gasp* How dare they!

Yes, garlic turns me into a people and vampire repellant, but how can devouring this allium family member be damaging to my health? I know, garlic is deadly to cats, dogs and insects – many organic farmers use garlic to ward of insects instead of DDT (a popular synthetic insecticide). Studies show that rats develop some degree of liver toxicity when they consume large quantities of garlic. Apparently, the results are more severe if you use raw garlic because of the allicin. You can loose the allicin by crushing the garlic. Cooking the garlic does not release any allicin.

Some people suffer from garlic allergies, which cause a variety of unwanted symptoms, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nausea, diarrhea, mouth/throat ulcerations, and in rare cases, anaphylaxis (serious allergic reaction).  (see chart above for more side effects)

I ate some raw garlic last night and immediately felt sluggish and had a runny nose. I was incapable of reading anything that requires using my brain. Tremendous brain fog! Hours later, I became bloated. This morning, I felt like I had a garlic hangover.  🙂

Does that happen to you? Please tell me I’m not the only one experiencing these nasty symptoms.

According to a lecture by Dr Robert C Beck (Nexus Magazine, March 1996), garlic is extremely toxic because it contains a poison for your brain cells.

“The reason garlic is so toxic, the sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates the blood-brain barrier, just like DMSO, and is a specific poison for higher-life forms and brain cells. We discovered this, much to our horror, when I (Bob Beck, DSc) was the world’s largest manufacturer of ethical EEG feedback
equipment.”

Dr Beck found that garlic altered the brains of his patients after they underwent a radiographic examination (encephalography).

“We’d have people come back from lunch that looked clinically dead on an encephalograph, which we used to calibrate their progress. “Well, what happened?” “Well, I went to an Italian restaurant and there was some garlic in my salad dressing!” So we had them sign things that they wouldn’t touch garlic before classes or we were wasting their time, their money and my time.”

He charges that eating garlic makes you “three times slower than you would be if you’d not had a few drops of garlic.” He learned this whilst he was in flight engineering school back in the 50’s. His flight surgeon at the time commanded that they refrain from “touching” garlic 72 hours before flying their planes, claiming it’ll “double or triple your reaction time.”

Then in the 70’s, Dr Beck began building biofeed-back equipment and during this time, he found out that “garlic usually desynchronises your brain waves.” This opted him to fund a study at Stanford University where he found out that it is a “poison.”

“You can rub a clove of garlic on your foot – and you can smell it shortly later on your wrists. So it penetrates the body. This is why DMSO smells a lot like garlic: that sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates all the barriers including the corpus callosum in the brain.”

Dr Douglas Graham

Dr Douglas Graham, founder of the 80/10/10 Diet, states, “Herbs and spices like GARLIC, onion, curry, cumin, ginger, cayenne, chili powder, and oregano contain alkaloids and other toxic chemicals.”

He claims those herbs and spices only transport toxins to your nervous system. Additionally, they irritate your digestive tract and sometimes even causing your body to manufacture mucus for protection.

What are your thoughts surrounding garlic?  Is garlic your friend or your foe?
