A skin care therapist recommended I apply Bio-Oil on a fresh scar that she gave me during a routine IPL session.
I was skeptical, but decided to use it for a month to see if it worked. I religiously applied it twice a day on my scar. I even applied it all over my face to see if it would improve my skin tone.
Well, after a month of using Bio-Oil, the only benefit I saw was that my skin was never dry – just greasy looking. I also broke out horribly — blackheads, pimples, whiteheads — you name it, I got it. I can’t be too surprised though.
Its main ingredient is mineral oil. However, you won’t read “mineral oil” on the packaging since they list it by its scientific name: Paraffinum Liquidum.
Mineral oil is a cheap cosmetics filler and is acne’s best friend. It’ll just clog your pores and piss off your skin. You might as well rub butter on your face.
You’re better off using oils that work like:
- Rosehip oil
- Helichrysum essential oil
- Neroli essential oil
- Sage essential oil
Bottom line – Save your money and your skin. I’m sure there are some who love Bio-Oil, but after trying it firsthand, I rather use an oil that will treat my scars without giving me breakouts.
