River Phoenix is Back

By: Isabella Crow

Hi Guys! You know me from my fashion posts, but I decided to post about one of my all time favorite actors: RIVER PHOENIX.

I fell in love with him ages ago and love all of his movies. I had a bit of nostalgia today and googled the hell out of River.  I learned that his last movie “Dark Blood” is out!

The director of that movie George Sluizer had some type of a near death experience, and he decided he had to finish the film.  He claims it’s not because of money, but because he doesn’t like to leave unfinished business.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know… River Phoenix struggled filming that movie because he didn’t get along with his co-star Judy Davis. She allegedly made his life hell on the film and wasn’t very nice to him.  Needless to say, he had a very hard time trying to do love scenes with her.

What else can I tell you about his time on “Dark Blood?” Well, he apparently went through a major drug detox while doing that film. He wanted to be clean and didn’t want to mess things up.  It was towards the end of the film that he went back to using drugs. When the film wrapped up production, he went back to LA and it was that night when he died.

It’ll be 19 years since he died on October 31st of a drugs overdose at The Viper Room, you know, that club that was partly owned by Johnny Depp at the time.

I still am confused about his death. I mean, he died at 23 years old and on Halloween. Crazy if you are into numerology.

All I know is that he would’ve most likely lived had they called the ambulance sooner.

What did I love most about him? I loved that he cared about the environment and about humanity. He was a Vegan and loved animals so much. He didn’t care about fame, and he actually hated it. He didn’t understand why people paid more attention to celebrities than world affairs.

He had so much on his shoulders at such a young age. He was supporting his entire family, hangers on and employees. He grew up in a Christian cult “Children of God” and some say he lost his virginity at 4 years old. FREAKING GROSS!!!!!! If that’s true, his parents are to blame for how he turned out to be. That will freaking mess up any child.

Despite the shit he went through, he grew up to be very generous and compassionate. It sucks he got into drugs and I really believe it all started when he got involved in that movie “My Own Private Idaho.”  He took his Method acting too far – he didn’t have to get into heroin because of the movie.

Anyway, peace and love. xoxo

  1. I remember River Phoenix so well. I had posters of him all over my wall as a young teen. It’s always so sad when someone takes their life, especially at a young age. I had no idea they were going to release the movie after all this time.
